Pre-Procedure Instructions for Chemical Peels

To prepare your skin for a chemical peel and ensure the best possible outcome, avoid using any retinoids, exfoliating acids (such as AHAs or BHAs), Vitamin C, or other active skincare ingredients for at least one week before treatment. It’s also important to stay out of direct sunlight, skip tanning beds, and refrain from waxing, shaving, or using depilatory creams on the treatment area during this time. Two days prior to your appointment, keep your skincare routine simple—avoid any harsh products or alcohol consumption, as these can increase skin sensitivity. Arrive at your appointment with clean skin, free of makeup, moisturizer, or sunscreen. Men should shave the day before treatment, not the same day, to minimize irritation. Be sure to inform your provider about any medications, skin conditions, or recent treatments so they can ensure your skin is ready for the peel.

Post-Procedure Instructions for Chemical Peels

After your chemical peel, your skin will begin its natural healing and renewal process. Mild redness, tightness, and sensitivity are normal during the first couple of days. Avoid touching, rubbing, or picking at your skin, and do not apply makeup or sunscreen for at least 24 hours. Use only gentle cleansers and hydrating products recommended by your provider. As light peeling or flaking begins over the following days, continue to keep your skin moisturized and avoid heat, sweating, and direct sun exposure. Once your skin has finished peeling—usually within a week—you may gradually return to your normal skincare routine, but continue using daily broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) to protect your results. Avoid exfoliating treatments for at least 10 to 14 days. Some redness or sensitivity may linger, which is normal, but if you notice any excessive irritation, swelling, or signs of infection, contact your provider right away.
